The film & TV industry in the region is thriving!Productions in the East of England have included the biggest names in film: James Bond, Star Wars, Batman Begins and Saving Private Ryan as well as the biggest production in the UK at present, Harry Potter. Screen East, the Regional Screen Agency for the East of England, is dedicated to developing, supporting and promoting the industry in the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Recent research commissioned by Screen East shows that Film and TV tourism is estimated to be worth £5.3 billion and that 20% of visitors come to the UK due to the screen effect. A focus on Film and TV Production in Cambridgeshire:
Cambridgeshire was recently host to Cate Blanchett and Clive Owen who were filming The Golden Age, which is the sequel to the 1998 film Elizabeth. The film is being made by London-based Working Title Films, the company responsible for top British films like Four Weddings and Notting Hill. The Golden Age shot at Ely Cathedral where both the leading actors were involved in scenes shot there. Ely Cathedral benefited from the income that the filming brought and is likely to see a tourism multiplier effect after the film’s release.
